Formalisms for Specifying Markovian Population Models

چکیده
We compare several languages for specifying Markovian population models such as queuing networks and chemical reaction networks. All these languages —matrix descriptions, stochastic Petri nets, stoichiometric equations, stochastic process algebras, and guarded command models— describe continuous-time Markov chains, but they differ according to important properties, such as compositionality, expressiveness and succinctness, executability, and ease of use. Moreover, they provide different support for checking the well-formedness of a model and for analyzing a model.

Modeling and Evaluation of Stochastic Discrete-Event Systems with RayLang Formalism
In recent years, formal methods have been used as an important tool for performance evaluation and verification of a wide range of systems. In the view points of engineers and practitioners, however, there are still some major difficulties in using formal methods. In this paper, we introduce a new formal modeling language to fill the gaps between object-oriented programming languages (OOPLs) us...

متن کاملDiffusion Approximations for Ecological Models
Diffusion models are widely used in ecology, and in more general population biology contexts, for predicting population-size distributions and extinction times. They are often used because they are particularly simple to analyse and give rise to explicit formulae for most of the quantities of interest. However, whilst diffusion models are ubiquitous in the literature on population models, their...
متن کاملMonte Carlo Simulation to Compare Markovian and Neural Network Models for Reliability Assessment in Multiple AGV Manufacturing System
We compare two approaches for a Markovian model in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) using Monte Carlo simulation. The model which is a development of Fazlollahtabar and Saidi-Mehrabad (2013), considers two features of automated flexible manufacturing systems equipped with automated guided vehicle (AGV) namely, the reliability of machines and the reliability of AGVs in a multiple AGV jobsho...
متن کاملModeling Exponential Reliable Production Lines using Kronecker Descriptors
This paper presents a solution procedure for production lines, based on a Markovian formulation with a Kronecker structured representation (sum of tensor products). Production lines with phase-type distributions for the processing and machine repair times and Erlang distribution times to failures of multiple machines in parallel at each workstation are traditionally modeled as Markovian continu...
